Programs And How To Get Help

Programs & How To Get Help

Who We Serve: Veterans, Seniors, people with disabilities, spouses, caregivers, children, and families under pressure—because support should never stop with one person when the whole home is carrying the burden.

Mission

HeavenSent Community Services & Veterans Assistance, Inc. exists to stand beside Veterans, Seniors, people with disabilities, and families in crisis so that no one has to walk through their hardest days alone. We combine practical help, compassionate listening, and long‑term follow‑up to support safety, stability, and hope.

Vision

Our vision is a community where Veterans, Seniors, people with disabilities, and families in crisis are seen, heard, and supported with dignity, where no one falls through the cracks, and where safe, stable housing and wrap‑around support are within reach for those who need it most.

We are working toward a tiny‑home style “Safe Harbor” community with on‑site services that grows out of the real casework we do every day.

How We Do the Work

HeavenSent’s programs are grounded in trauma‑informed, evidence‑informed practice. We draw on lessons from disaster case management, Veteran family support, disability services, and peer recovery models so that the help we offer is not only compassionate, but also consistent with federally recognized best practices.

HeavenSent Programs & Services

Every person who comes to HeavenSent is carrying a different story, but most are asking the same question: “Is there anyone who will really walk with me through this?” Our programs were built out of years of disaster work, Veterans support, and lived experience so that our answer can be yes.

HeavenSent offers hands‑on programs for Veterans, Seniors, people with disabilities, and families in crisis. Whether someone is one bill away from homelessness or already sleeping in their car, we focus on safety, stability, and hope.

1. Crisis & Basic Needs Support

When life falls apart, it is hard to think about paperwork or long‑term plans. The first thing people need is to feel safe, heard, and not alone.

Who this helps

  • Veterans, Seniors, and families facing an immediate crisis
  • People who suddenly cannot afford food, gas, or basic essentials
  • Individuals who have been turned away or do not know where to start

What we offer

  • Emergency food and basic‑needs support when possible
  • Help thinking through immediate safety and “what do I do next?”
  • Warm referrals and coordination with local resources
  • Support with forms, phone calls, and navigating systems
  • Check‑ins and encouragement so people do not feel forgotten

We treat every person with dignity and respect, honoring their story, culture, faith, and independence.

2. Disaster Relief & Community Response

HeavenSent was forged in disaster zones and crisis scenes. When storms hit or emergencies shake a community, we do what we have always done—we go.

Who this helps

  • Communities impacted by hurricanes, floods, fires, and other disasters
  • Families and individuals whose lives have been disrupted overnight
  • Local partners looking for experienced, boots‑on‑the‑ground support

What we offer

  • Coordination with local agencies, churches, and community partners
  • On‑the‑ground support where appropriate and possible
  • Disaster casework, navigation, and long‑term follow‑up with the most vulnerable

Our goal is not only to help with the first wave of need, but to stay aware of the people who tend to fall through the cracks.

3. Housing Support & Homelessness Prevention

Housing is more than a roof. It is safety, dignity, and a place to breathe. Many of the people we serve are one crisis away from losing that.

Who this helps

  • Veterans, Seniors, and families at risk of losing housing
  • Individuals already unhoused and looking for a path back to stability
  • People stuck between agencies or waiting on decisions

What we offer

  • Support navigating housing resources and options
  • Help understanding letters, notices, and deadlines
  • Advocacy and coordination with landlords, agencies, and partners
  • Planning toward more stable, long‑term housing

Our long‑term vision

HeavenSent is working toward a tiny‑home “Safe Harbor” community that will provide safe, dignified housing and wrap‑around services for Veterans, Seniors, and people with disabilities. That vision guides the way we design our housing support today.

Our housing work is designed to align with local HUD/CoC goals to prevent and end homelessness, and can be integrated with transitional housing, rapid‑rehousing, and other CoC‑funded projects as appropriate.

4. Veterans Services & Peer Support

Many of us at HeavenSent are Veterans or walk closely with Veterans and their families. We understand the weight of trying to hold everything together on your own.

Who this helps

  • Veterans of all eras and branches
  • Spouses, partners, and caregivers of Veterans
  • Veterans who feel burned out, discouraged, or “done with the system”

What we offer

  • Peer support from people who understand military and Veteran culture
  • Help navigating VA and community benefits and resources
  • One‑to‑one and group support that listens without judgment
  • Alumni Peer Mentor programming to walk alongside other Veterans (Alumni Peer Mentor Program SOP)

Where appropriate, we also help Veteran households understand and apply for VA family caregiver and disability‑related supports, and we connect families of Veterans with special‑needs children to additional resources in the VA and community network.

We are not the VA, and we do not replace medical or mental‑health care, but we can help you make sense of options, connect with partners, and feel less alone in the process.

5. Support for Seniors & People With Disabilities

Seniors and people with disabilities often carry quiet battles—medication costs, transportation, isolation, and housing stress—that most people never see.

Who this helps

  • Seniors trying to balance rent, utilities, food, and medicine
  • Adults with physical, developmental, or mental‑health disabilities
  • Caregivers who are worn out and unsure where to turn

What we offer

  • Help understanding and connecting to community resources
  • Support with paperwork, benefits, and applications
  • Respite‑style support and check‑ins so people are not carrying everything alone
  • Health, healing, and behavioral support pathways (HH‑001 and related SOPs)

We walk patiently at each person’s pace, with respect for their independence and choices.

6. Counseling, Peer‑to‑Peer & Recovery Pathways

HeavenSent’s peer‑to‑peer and counseling‑related programs are built so people do not have to battle addiction, trauma, or isolation by themselves.

Includes programs such as

  • Counseling Programs & Peer‑to‑Peer groups (Counseling Programs Peer to Peer Works; Proof for Peer to Peer; Substance Abuse Rehabilitation; Drug and Alcohol Addiction)
  • Health, Healing, and Behavioral Support (HH‑001)
  • Alumni Peer Mentor Program

What we focus on

  • Safe, confidential spaces like the Peer Room Alpha and Quiet Conversation Room where people can talk honestly
  • Peer‑to‑peer groups and one‑on‑one support with people who “get it”
  • Encouragement to engage with professional treatment, recovery programs, and faith supports as part of a whole‑person plan

7. Work, Purpose, Training & Casework Support

Stability is not just about surviving the crisis; it is about having a future. HeavenSent connects people to work, purpose, and structure so they can rebuild.

What this includes

  • Work, Purpose, and Employment Pathways casework and SOPs
  • Vocational school and skills‑building pathways
  • Heaven‑Sent Classroom & Training Room programs
  • Money, Bills, and Benefits Stabilization SOP
  • Caseworker Secure Suite, Staff Operations Office, Screening/Triage/Intake, and Client Forms Center tools that support organized, high‑quality casework

Our standard operating procedures (SOPs) are there so every client receives consistent, ethical, and careful support—not “random help,” but a steady hand.

8. Disabilities Support & Family Respite

Through Disabilities Support & Family Respite Services, HeavenSent walks with families who are carrying long‑term disability, behavior, or care needs at home.

Who this helps

  • Families caregiving for a loved one with disabilities
  • Parents and guardians juggling multiple systems and appointments
  • Individuals with disabilities who need help navigating services

What we offer

  • Support understanding IEPs, benefits, and service systems
  • Practical planning and casework to reduce burnout
  • Coordination with partners who provide respite and in‑home services

9. Transitional Housing & Safe Harbor Vision

HeavenSent’s Transitional Housing & Rehabilitation Program and Safe Harbor Residence Master Plan are about much more than beds. They are about creating a pathway from crisis to stability with structure, support, and community.

What this includes

  • Transitional Housing & Rehabilitation Program for Veterans and others who qualify
  • Safe Harbor Residence Master Plan and related residence‑and‑campus SOPs
  • Recovery‑focused, stability‑focused casework while people are in transitional housing

10. Pastoral Care, Prayer, & Spiritual Support

For those who want it, HeavenSent offers prayer, pastoral care, and spiritual conversation through clergy and trusted faith partners.

What this includes

  • Clergy Chat & Prayer page
  • Grace and Comfort Room
  • Quiet Conversation Room

We never force faith conversations, but we gladly pray, listen, and walk with people who ask for spiritual support.

HeavenSent is a faith‑guided organization, but our core services are offered to all eligible clients regardless of faith, background, race, gender, or orientation. Spiritual support is always optional and provided only when requested.

11. Client Casework, Forms & Follow‑Up

Behind every phone call and visit, HeavenSent has a structure designed to protect clients, track needs, and follow through.

Key tools and rooms

  • Heaven‑Sent Client Forms Center and Intake & Document Room
  • Casework Portal and Staff Operations Office
  • Screening, Triage, and Intake tools
  • Disaster Waiting Room and Support Lobby
  • SOP Index covering programs such as VA Claims & Benefits Assistance, Money, Bills, and Benefits Stabilization, Work & Purpose, Housing, Recovery, and more

These systems and SOPs help us protect privacy, follow best practices, and make sure people do not fall through the cracks over time.

Family Support Programs

Many of the people we serve are not walking through crisis alone—they are holding up children, spouses, parents, and grandparents at the same time. HeavenSent’s Family Support Programs are designed to walk with entire households, especially veteran families and families living with disability or long‑term health needs.

These programs sit across our housing, casework, veteran, and disability lanes so that families are not forced to tell their story over and over again to get the help they need.

What Our Family Support Programs Include

  • Family Caregiver Support & Coaching – Listening, coaching, and practical support for spouses, partners, parents, and other caregivers who are worn out, overwhelmed, or unsure how to keep going while caring for a veteran, senior, or disabled loved one.
  • Benefits & Systems Navigation for Families – Help understanding and navigating VA benefits, disability services, Medicaid/Medicare, school systems, and community programs, including support with forms, phone calls, and preparing for key appointments.
  • Family Respite & Crisis Breaks – Short breaks, check‑ins, and connection to respite partners so caregivers can rest, go to appointments, or catch their breath without feeling like they are abandoning their loved one.
  • Family Financial Stabilization Coaching – Budget and crisis‑budget coaching built around real family costs (rent, utilities, food, medications, fuel), using our Money, Bills, and Benefits Stabilization tools to move households toward steadier footing.
  • Family Disaster Preparedness & Recovery – Simple planning and support so families with veterans, seniors, or disabilities are safer when storms and emergencies hit, plus casework and follow‑up for those affected by hurricanes, floods, and other disasters.
  • Family Support Circles – Peer groups where spouses, parents, and caregivers can talk honestly, share ideas, and encourage one another, including circles for veteran families and for families living with disability or special needs.
  • School & IEP Advocacy for Special‑Needs Kids – Help reviewing IEPs and 504 plans, understanding rights and options, and preparing for school meetings so parents do not feel alone in advocating for their children with disabilities or special needs.

These family‑focused programs are one more way HeavenSent works to make sure no veteran family and no family living with disability has to carry their hardest days by themselves.

For Veteran Families & Families Living With Disability

Many of our programs are designed with veteran families and families living with disability in mind. From VA benefit navigation and caregiver coaching to IEP advocacy, respite support, and Safe Harbor housing pathways, we work to make sure the entire household—not just one person—has support.

If You’re Not Sure Where You Fit

You do not have to know the name of the program you need. If you are a veteran, senior, caregiver, or family under pressure, just reach out and tell us what is happening in your own words. We will listen first and then work with you to find the right path forward.

Data, Outcomes, and Privacy

We track our work through secure case management tools so we can see what is working and where families still need more support. Our outcomes include housing stability, employment and income changes, symptom and stress reduction, and connection to long‑term supports.

We protect client privacy, follow applicable laws and best practices for data security, and share only de‑identified information in our reports to partners and funders.

Coordination With VA, HUD/CoC, FEMA, and State Partners

HeavenSent works to complement—not replace—the resources already available through the VA, HUD/Continuum of Care (CoC) system, FEMA, and state and county agencies. When appropriate, our caseworkers help Veterans and families understand and access programs such as VA caregiver support, disability housing grants, and other federal and state benefits.

We also participate in local homeless and disaster‑response networks, align our housing work with CoC priorities, and use coordinated referrals to make sure clients are connected to the best available options in our region.

How to Get Help

If you or someone you love needs help, you do not have to figure it out alone. Reaching out is not a burden to us—it is the reason we exist. Helping is in our soul.

Step 1: Reach out in the way that is safest for you.

  • Visit our “Get Help! Contact and Information” page and share a little about what is going on.
  • Call our office during posted hours at (689) 204‑1989.
  • Email our director at joepres@heaven-sent-veterans-outreach.org .

Step 2: We will listen first.

We will listen, ask a few simple questions, and work with you to find a safe next step. You do not need the “right words,” the perfect paperwork, or a polished story—just start with, “Here is what is happening,” and we will listen.

Step 3: We walk with you, not ahead of you.

Together we will sort out immediate safety, possible resources, and a plan that respects your choices, culture, and faith. If we cannot help directly, we will do our best to connect you with someone who can.

You are not a number or a case file to us. You are a person created with worth and dignity, and we count it a privilege to walk beside you in this season.
